Vacancy: Chief Executive Officer

The Costs Lawyer Standards Board (CLSB) regulates Costs Lawyers in England and Wales under the framework of the Legal Services Act 2007. Costs Lawyers are experts on the subject of legal costs, providing specialist advice in a niche area of law.

We are seeking to appoint a high-performing, proactive CEO to lead our small collaborative team, working flexibly three days per week. This is a part-time, permanent position reporting to the Chair of the CLSB board.

The role

You will lead all aspects of the CLSB’s regulatory and operational activities, in line with the organisation’s statutory remit and objectives. Working in pursuit of our existing mid-term strategy, which applies until 2027, there will be considerable scope for you to apply your creativity and experience in shaping the organisation for the coming years.

Reporting to the board, you will have day-to-day responsibility for the CLSB’s performance. You will manage a small team of talented and dedicated staff and expert consultants, supporting them to deliver a high-quality regulatory service in the interests of Costs Lawyers, their clients, the wider public and the justice system.

The role offers a rare combination of flexibility, autonomy, seniority and challenge for the right candidate.

Work arrangements:

3 days per week, with flexibility as to the days and times worked (to be agreed with the board).

Working remotely from a home or other personal office, with some in-person meeting attendance in England and Wales as required from time to time.

Remuneration:

£52,000 per annum for 3 days per week (which is the equivalent of £87,000 per annum full-time).

15 days annual leave (which is the equivalent of 25 days per annum full-time).

3% employer pension contribution.

Full details of the role, including the CEO’s key responsibilities, are available in the role information pack.

The person

You will have an outstanding combination of skills that allows you to see the big picture and think at a strategic level, while also being on top of the detail and delivering high-quality outputs. You will be a high achiever with a sharp mind, who works efficiently and in a targeted way to get the most out of a part-time role.

You will be a highly motivated self-starter who can work independently, but who can manage and motivate a team remotely and who knows when to seek input from others. You will excel at maintaining momentum and engagement while working remotely from a home office.

You will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting the public interest, whilst also being commercial and pragmatic, finding novel ways to generate maximum impact from a limited budget. You will be a champion for an organisational culture of inclusivity, positivity, creativity and respect.

The essential and desirable selection criteria for the role are set out in the role information pack.
