There is currently only one means of entry into the profession (approved by the Legal Services Board following consultation and due process) a three year study programme. Entry onto that study programme is however currently suspended.
The CLSB has initiated a consultation process on a proposed new means of entry via a Costs Lawyer Competence Test (CLCT) which would afford greater flexibility on how the knowledge and skills required to meet the proposed standard under the CLCT can be achieved. It would also be a less expensive means of entry into the profession, and would offer exemptions for those who are already legally qualified.
If the proposal for a CLCT is approved by the Legal Services Board, the CLSB will then seek a suitable training/assessment body to deliver it.
Register an interest in qualifying as a Costs Lawyer
If you are interested in qualifying as a Costs Lawyer, please register your interest with the CLSB at email@example.com. The CLSB will contact you in due course once the future means of entry has been decided upon, seeking your permission to forward your expression of interest onto the training/assessment body the CLSB has identified as best placed to deliver it.
If you have already registered your interest with the current training provider ACL Training, please re-register again with CLSB so we can ensure you are kept in the loop.
