Kate Wellington – Chief Executive & Company Secretary
Kate is a qualified solicitor in the UK and Australia. Kate began her legal career in the public sector before transitioning to private practice at Linklaters LLP in London, specialising in commercial litigation, arbitration and regulatory investigations. In 2013, Kate moved in-house to work for Which? (the UK’s largest consumer association) where she held various senior roles including Lead Lawyer for Policy and Communications and Head of Legal Operations.
In addition to operational and management experience, Kate’s specialist areas include consumer rights, ADR, regulatory policy and the development of professional standards. Katehas served on numerous advisory committees and steering groups throughout her career, both at the UK and EU level.
Kate has held a public appointment to the Civil Procedure Rule Committee from 2013 to 2018 and is currently an independent member of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Professional Standards Committee and the Ombudsman Association’s Validation Committee. Kate holds undergraduate degrees in law (LLB) and economics (BEc), as well as a postgraduate degree in civil law (BCL) from the University of Oxford.
Lynn Plumbley – Head of Operations
Lynn started her career in 1983 in the Lord Chancellors Department. In 1987, Lynn joined Spittle & Howard Solicitors studying law whilst practising matrimonial & civil litigation law. In 1991, Lynn wrote on health & safety law for a publishing company before becoming an environmental prosecutor in 1993.
Whilst a defendant litigator at Halliwell Landau Solicitors in Manchester, Lynn was offered the opportunity to join the Yorkshire Metropolitan Housing Association as Company Secretary. In 1999, Lynn joined Matalan Plc to establish its company secretariat and in-house legal department, post flotation.
In 2003, Lynn was appointed as a Non-Executive Director in the NHS. In that NED role, she chaired the Risk Management Committee and was a member of both the Policy Committee and Remuneration Committee. In 2009, Lynn she joined TDG Ltd to re-establish its company secretariat department following relocation from London.
On 27 September 2010, Lynn joined the CLSB as Chief Executive and Company Secretary. In that role she brought the CLSB to a position of being recognised as an approved regulator with effect from 31 October 2011. In November 2018, Lynn indicated she no longer wished to work full-time. Lynn accepted and commenced the role of part-time Head of Operations on 10 June 2019.
